So my suggestion: if you are getting bored because you've 'done it all', then yeah I'd consider it, but tbh you'd do just as well getting a couple of civ packs. ![]() The only thing I do unreservedly appreciate is having new civs to play. There is also a bunch of stuff we don't have (from new frontier?), like heroes and secret societies and monopolies, which seem to be the basis for almost every crazy cheesy OP strategy I've seen on YouTube. Governors are kind of neat but a frankly unnecessary complication and one more thing to optimise. There are a whole bunch of late game techs and civics (&units etc) that would be neat, if it wasn't for the fact that by that stage the game is already decided, and they're padding out the point where the game is dragging on. Some of the additions seem like pointless annoying fluff that they are testing for civ 7 (era score, Congress), that just give you one more thing to think about. The only thing we found to be a qualitative improvement is that there are natural disasters. They don't make much better, they just add more stuff. Almost all the additions are take it or leave it. They do add 'stuff' to the game, and now that we've learned it all I wouldn't go back to vanilla, but. We got GS, R&F and a few civ packs a couple of months ago. There is a lot more to consider which can be overwhelming at times (especially if you are super into optimization) but definitely allows you to establish a unique strategy for each game. I have yet to play with Babylon but I am sure you have seen a lot of comments/memes about their abilities.įinally, I started playing R&F and GS together at the same time so I can't differentiate between them but they definitely add a lot more considerations/factors to the base game that I liked for the better such as disasters, loyalty, new wonders, governors, etc. Gran Colombia is one of my favorites along with Aztec because of their unique unit-the Eagle Warrior can turn opposing units into builders. Tech Shuffle is one I am not crazy about nor Dramatic Ages but I know others on this civ like it for the challenge.Īlso, some of the new civs are really awesome. Barbarian-clans and zombie mode are also modes I usually play with. The secret societies are also a lot of fun as well and can be used for all victory types. The corporations give bonuses to certain cities (extra production, faith, culture, etc.) and monopolies can be used to win culture games as well. For example, I like corporations/monopolies modes as I enjoy being an economic power. There are certain new game modes I really enjoy. So if you are gonna just buy 1 buy RF but everyone will tell you that both are worth it. You need to own R&F to be able to play with GS. They add some randomness and extra layer of strategy.īoth expansions add new districts, civs, wonders, great people etc. They could harm your cities and units but also leave some tiles with extra yields. These are things like flods, eruptions, hurricanes etc. You and everyone else will produce CO2 and Global Warming will worsen over time depending on how much CO2 is being produced. You'll have power plants that consumes strategic resources like coal and oil to power up your cities and certain buildings. Also the culture and science victories get improved.Įlectricity and Global Warming (GS). This will make the game a bit longer but makes the endgame definitely more fun. You'll have more techs, civics, units buildings etc. ![]() This is kinda part of the diplomacy system but really makes the game more fun and makes the Ai a bit stronger.Ģ1st century (GS). So there are various emergencies but for the most part they are there to let players give a chance to unite against someone who is winning. You gain era point in various ways but for the most part they make a lot sense.Įmergencies (R&F). Everyone enters a new world era at the same time and depending on how many era points you had you can get a golden age, normal age or a dark age which all have bonuses and penalties. You now have world eras which are different then your scientific era. Oh and you'll have new types of alliances with their own benefits like military alliance, economic alliance etc.Įras and ages (R&F). You also get the world congress and the Diplomatic Victory type. You also have casus bellis which changes how much grievances you'll produce from certain actions. and they disappear over time, how fast they disappear depends on the era. Grievances happen due to warmongerin, breaking promises etc. ![]() Governors are part of this mechanic as wellĭiplomacy (GS) is totally overhauled instead of the civ5 style diplo you now have grievances. You can even gain or lose cities with this mechanic. Loyalty (R&F)totally changes how you and the Ai will settle cities.
